Raising awareness of disaster risk reduction
12.10.2018 – 18.10.2018
Disaster risk reduction mean risk reduction, risk management and recovery after disaster. The floods in 2014, affected at least 20% of population in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and caused multimillion damage, the worst in 120 years. The term “hundred-year water” or “earthquake with receding affect in 500 years” are just terms that explain of failure of appearing outside the frame, therefore it is more than normal to have floods two years in a row or earthquake at least 3 times in 100 years within this group “earthquake with receding affect in 500 years”.
Disasters appearing because of natural hazards are not lucky games, but fortunately we can mitigate natural hazards. It is in interest of each of us to know better this theme. Many think how Institutions are those who are responsible to think and act in this matter. But, each individual is active actor in knowing, acting and understanding the faster and effective response to disaster, and working on prevention before it happen. To be active part of local community means supporting local community in prevention and action, with raising awareness to clean environment near rivers, taking care of building houses away from waterproof zones, insurance of property and many more. This means to be part of responsible community.
Caritas in Bosnia and Herzegovina will through different activities in different parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina implement awareness campaign through DRR days.
